Memory Foam Mattresses Are Taking Bedrooms by Storm

If you stroll through your local mall, there's a good chance you will spot a bed or mattress store. It probably will have nothing to do with spring mattresses, but will be trying to push the next big thing. Memory foam mattresses are taking bedrooms by storm. I couldn't believe myself, how comfortable they are. They claim to hold definite advantages over the old-school mattress and box springs. These dense foam, sleep enhancers supposedly offer a more healthy structure to your body when sleeping. This concerns the alignment of your back and spine.

A second big seller on the sleep market today is the air mattress, or Sleep By Number beds. These provide a range of softness to the bed, but in addition, provide each side with separate adjustments. This way the husband and wife can choose their own level of comfort. This sounds perfect in theory, but I have to admit after trying them out in a store, I wasn't so impressed. While these mattresses were not bad, they were not perfect either.

I could never get totally comfortable, and maybe that had a little to do with the price tag. In reality, if you choose either of these new-age mattresses, you're gonna be forking out some bucks. Try a couple thousand. Then I hope you already have a bed frame to put it on.

After trying most of the new mattress styles, I have to admit that the memory foam matress was the most comfortable. My wife even agreed on this. Considering the cost, you better make sure you try all concepts before buying. There was just something about the memory foam mattress that allowed total comfort. You just sink in these babies and they form to your body.

It's very relaxing. I can't say that I know the life spans of these mattresses or if they harbor any faults, but I can say that I want one. Expensive or not, I don't know about everyone else, but I want to sleep well. How well we rest really affects our mood and work abilities the following day. Therefore in the end , the memory foam mattress is probably worth the price tag if it provides you with a good night sleep.

A Guide to Memory Foam Companies
Memory foam, the visco-elastic material that temporarily keeps whatever form you press into it, is mostly associated with memory foam mattresses. The most famous memory foam mattress brand is Tempur-Pedic, the very company that helped NASA to develop the material. It is one of the more premium brands, but there are at least two other quality brands worth noting.SensusSensus memory foam generally has a density of 5 pounds per cubic foot. This makes for a high-density mattress or mattress pad. It will last you at least 10 years, softening a little over time. It has an ILD (Indentation Load Deflection) of 14, which means it is a soft sort of foam. Sensus carries memory foam mattresses almost as good as Tempur-Pedic, at lower prices.SertaSerta is a large bedding company, formed in 1931. They decided to start offering memory foam mattresses and mattress pads in the 1990s, and their product quality is high, but their customer service is not very knowledgeable. If you buy a Serta memory foam mattress, go to a dealer or small retailer of their products, rather than the manufacturer.Tempur-PedicTempur-Pedic is the industry leader in memory foam. They offer three mattresses, each a different thickness, with different levels of firmness. The Classic is the firmest at 8". It has a base layer of 4.3". Air is allowed to flow through this base layer and the top two layers, with the top layer being the softest. The Deluxe is thicker at 10", with a two-level base layer that is doubly aerated for more airflow, thus allowing for a softer and cooler sleep. The Celebrity is over 13" thick - the softest memory foam mattress Temper-Pedic has to offer. Most other companies offer these variations in memory foam mattresses, but Tempur-Pedic was the first.
Divan Bed - What Are Divan Beds?
Years ago beds were made from piles of feathers, straw and animal skins, evolution has the modern bedroom furniture looking so very different, with beds ranging from bunks to four posters and even divans. However many people ask 'what are divan beds' and what makes them so different to an ordinary bed? What are Divan Beds?A divan bed consists of two separate parts; the base and the mattress. The divan base consists of a sturdy wooden frame which looks like a deep hollow box. This base can contain springs or have a hard flat top and is covered with fabric which is usually either cotton or damask and matches the mattress cover. The space inside this box base is what makes a divan bed so very useful. As the base is basically just a large wooden frame, it has been specially adapted so that it can contain up to four drawers or compartments along the sides. The end of the bed can also contain either a drawer or slide compartment. Sometimes the top of the base can be lifted up in order for the inside to be used for storage. The divans base usually comes in two or more separate pieces, with the exception of the single and clips together to form a sturdy base. This makes them wonderful for houses with narrow hallways and entrances, as many houses do not have large enough front doors to take a full bed frame. But with a divan bed the various components can be taken into the house one by one and then assembled in the bedroom. The divan base either has casters attached for ease of moving the bed around, or wooden legs which attach to the base bottom raising it from the floor as in a more traditional style bed. When the mattress is placed on top of the bed base the divan bed is then complete.Divan beds come in a variety of types and styles; memory foam beds, hypoallergenic beds, pocket sprung beds and back care beds. Plus for those who have back problems or who require firm support there are orthopedic divan beds. What Makes a Divan Different from an Ordinary Bed?A divan bed differs from an ordinary bed due to the fact that it traditionally has no end boards, nor any frame supporting it. The base helps reduce wear to the mattress and absorbs shock providing a firm flat support structure for your mattress. It literally consists of a box base which supports the mattress and an optional headboard.Divans come in a choice of soft or hard types. Platform tops are hard and provide more support to your back than the softer sprung types as they do not yield so much when you place your weight upon them. Sprung edge bases meanwhile offer a softer luxurious feel which gives that much more. And resembles the divan chairs with their cushions and padding. However the exact extent of support will be determined by the type of mattress that you choose to top your divan bed.
Rha T10i: in-canal Earphones That Challenge the Norm
If you think in-ear headphones only comprise the itty bundled ones packaged with phones and audio players, think again. Here's a bit of British kit that has brings the goods to your hi-fi listening game.In-ear headphones have always been a polarizing bit of gear: there are those who swear by them, and there are those who can't stand using them. Based on a form factor that requires a part of them to be inserted into the ear canal, many users are simply not down with wearing them, especially during extended bouts of serious listening.Times have changes and in-ear headphones are no longer associated with marking the low-end of the quality and performance spectrum. These days they use exotic construction materials, imparting comfort and robustness not generally attributed to these little buds. Case in point, the RHA T10i kit we heard recently.RHA is a British company known for their prowess in creating high-end audio listening gear. Their top-of-the-line T10i is a pair of headphones that pushes the boundaries when it comes to how well-crafted a pair of in-ears can get. These are noise-isolating headphones--they do not have active circuitry that cancels ambient sounds, but instead rely on the quality of the seal that earbuds make to keep external sounds out. The fact that this is premium was very apparent, given its heft (so far as earbud standards go), and the excellent packaging. Pulling open the covering flap of the box reveals an excellently-crafted first-look experience, with the headphones and the numerous bits and bobs that comprise the kit revealed through the transparent window in the box, with appropriately awe-inspiring photos and graphs flaunting the products key features on the left flap. You want to leave it open and take it all in.Nestled in the foam tray are the two brushed-steel headphones, created using a process called metal injection moulding that apparently enabled the engineers to craft a more ergonomic and acoustically precise form. Also on display is the array of nine types of silicone and memory foam tips, aimed at providing a comfortable fit for virtually any ear. Nodding to smartphones and tablet applications, the headphones integrate a 3-button inline remote that includes a microphone. But most interesting are the two pairs of mysterious-looking 'pegs' mounted in a metallic plate within the packaging. Here's where things get interesting with these particular headphones. While most headphones rely on some form electronic tuning--generally via electronic crossovers--for enabling listeners to customize the audio signature toward the bass or treble end, these headphones use actual, tiny, metal-moulded filters for the job. Unscrew a tiny component at the tip of the earphones and it can be replaced with one of two additional screw-on filters that provide up to 3dB of boost in either the treble (above 1KHz) or bass (under 200Hz) frequency bands, enabling a 'tweaked' acoustic signature. We drove these headphones through their paces with our reference system comprising a Fiio E07K DAC/amp, through which we listened to a wide swatch of musical genres at mid- (190Kbps) to hi-definition (uncompressed FLAC) bitrates. Being such tiny devices, one does not expect to hear such expansive, crystal sound come out of them. But come out it did; sound that was tight, with clean and present bass and crisp treble. Off-the-bat and with no equalization dialed in, I did however note a lack in the mid-range response where vocals and wind instruments tended to take a back seat in the performance. Nothing that a spot of equalization could not fix--I use MediaMonkey, which does a fine job of managing diverse music libraries while lending fine-grained control over the listening experience. If you prefer the innocuousness of in-ear headphones and are looking for a solid set that will do justice to high-quality music--price no bar--the T10i does a fine job. Be sure to pair it with a good audio player and you're set.Frequency response: 16Hz - 22KHzImpedance: 16 OhmsSensitivity: 100dBPrimary construction: Steel, Kevlar, memory foam, foldable for storage Rs 14,999Available at
The Tempur-pedic Slipper - Using Space Technology to Comfort Tired Feet
When did you ever hear of a mattress manufacturer making footwear? Well, Tempur-Pedic has created a slipper that incorporates the same viscoelastic material used in its memory foam mattress. Thinking about it, it makes sense; tired feet deserve the same support as the rest of your body.Just in case you don't know, viscoelastic foam is a new product that differs significantly from ordinary polyurethane foam. This unique material reacts to both pressure and temperature and conforms to the exact shape of whatever is being placed on top of it. A bed mattress that uses this type of foam distribute weight evenly and so help to significantly reduce pressure points and provide the best possible support and alignment of the spine and neck. The Tempur-Pedic mattress was the original and still remains the market leader. It offers a number of models of differing configurations and budget. The company also makes pillows made of viscoelastic foam, which seems logical. Again, there are different configurations and prices. However, not many would think that Tempur-Pedic also makes slippers. But why not? After all, if a memory foam mattress gives you the best possible support when lying down, why shouldn't this foam also give you the best support when walking around your home? The Comfort-Step slipper is the company's latest design. The slipper comes with a very tough sole, suede uppers and comes in blue or brown. They're not cheap, costing around $50. There's been mixed reviews about them. Some have complained that depressions quickly appear on the memory foam sole (usually the heal) and that the uppers (outer lining) wears out too quickly. I also wish that there were more styles and colors available. However, most really liked the comfort of the slippers and highly recommend them. One word of warning; you can never, ever get them wet. So, they're only suitable for wearing inside the house - you can wear them outside but you should avoid walking on damp grass. Obviously, you can't machine wash them either. You used to be able to buy Tempurpedic inner soles as well but they are no longer available. This is a real shame as many people have problems wearing shoes and traditional inner soles don't always do the trick. However, the good news is that there are other brands on offer. And, there are now even shoes being made with inner soles using viscoelastic foam.Modellista Footwear manufactures shoes with memory foam inner soles - the company acquired a license from Tempur-Pedic to use its foam. Interestingly, the company had to devise a new way of shaping its shoes as traditional methods use steam - contact with steam causes viscoelastic foam to collapse. Its shoe designs range from traditional clog shapes to sling backs and open-toe sandals and are available nationwide. The Tempur-Pedic slipper is very popular and a number of other memory foam brands are now available. Over the next few years I believe were going to see viscoelastic foam being incorporated into many slippers and shoes.
Weather Watch: Verizon's Forecast Phone Line, Reincarnated
It wasn't easy to kill Rasputin, but in the end - after being stabbed, poisoned, shot and drowned - he died. The mythical phoenix, on the other hand, never dies. Or rather, it dies but rises from the ashes to live again. So, which will the Verizon weather line most resemble? The mad Russian monk or the flammable bird? Your guess is as good as mine.I've written several times about the line, which has been providing free weather forecasts since the 1930s. Simply dial 202-936-1212, and you can hear what the heavens have in store for you: wind or rain or shine. In March, Verizon announced that weather (and another service, time) no longer fit the company's mission. In the land of smartphones and cable TV, phone weather is a "remnant of another era," a Verizon spokeswoman told me.But a backlash started, and the hangman slacked his rope. On June 1 - the day the plug was scheduled to be pulled - I wrote that there would be a reprieve.Last week, Verizon contacted Keith Allen of D.C. Weather Services, whose half-dozen part-time meteorologists record the forecasts, and told him the service would be shut down in a week or two. "That was the news I did not want to hear," Keith told me. But this week, I learned that at least two entities are interested in taking over the line. The Washington Post passed, but the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments has been in discussions with Verizon. COG already has an air-quality phone line (202-962-3299). "This could be a really neat tie-in, " said COG's Jennifer Desimone. "We want to make sure the citizens of our region are informed of anything that could affect their health."The question is whether COG can afford it. Keith might have charged Verizon only $800 a month to provide four to five forecasts a day, but there is the additional cost of the infrastructure.Another possible white knight: the Washington-based Telecompute Corp., which already provides a multitude of phone services, including weather. Telecompute's Warren Miller said he would sell local advertising on the line to augment the costs. "My mission would be to keep the number exactly like it is," Warren said.Keith said he's confident someone will step forward. "There may be an interruption for a while, but it's going to fly again," he said. "I guarantee you that."Fly again? That sounds like the phoenix. But that's probably what Rasputin said, too, just before they threw him in the Neva River.Verizon has already shut down the 703- and 301- numbers, keeping only the 202-936-1212 exchange. The company kept the message that says the service will be discontinued June 1, even though the system is still perking along. It's almost as if Verizon wants to starve it.Of course, Verizon is entirely within its rights to shut down the phone line. "It is a deregulated service," said Betty Ann Kane of the District's Public Service Commission. "We understand it's going to cause a difficulty for some people. The bottom line is, legally we have no authority to do anything about it, under federal or D.C. law."When I drove to Camp Moss Hollow in Virginia the other day, I noticed the temperature dropped 10 degrees, from 86 to 76. That's how much cooler it is there. It's the perfect place for at-risk kids to get away from the city's heat.Your donation can help keep them cool. To donate, go to Click where it says "Give Now," and designate "Send a Kid to Camp" in the gift information. Or mail a check payable to "Send a Kid to Camp" to Send a Kid to Camp, P.O. Box 96237, Washington, D.C. 20090-6237.Someone on my neighborhood message group placed a "for sale" ad for a king-size memory foam mattress. Wait a minute. Since it' s made of memory foam, wouldn't the mattress "remember" the people who had slept on it previously? Oh, the stories it could tell. . . . And why is it that mattress commercials always show someone jumping up and down on one side of the bed while a glass of red wine rests placidly on the other side? Is this a feature consumers are looking for? Do that many people drink wine in bed?

Cheap Single Beds with Mattresses in the Uk - a Buyer's ...
Finding cheap single beds with mattresses in the UK might not be as hard as you think. Moving out of home for the first time can be quite intimidating and expensive but as long as you know what you are looking for then you can easily find affordable and comfortable bedding for your new home. This is especially true for students moving into a shared house or first time renters who need inexpensive furniture to suit their budget. In this article we take a look at everything you need to know in order to find yourself a decent single bed frame and mattress, either from a store or from a private seller. What Sizes are Best to Buy CheaplyWhen buying in retail stores the general rule is that smaller bed and mattress sets are going to be cheaper than larger ones. However, when buying used this might not be the case. The prices of beds and other furniture in the used market are more commonly related to demand and how quickly a sale needs to be made. As an example, if an owner needs to sell in one week then they are likely to price very cheap, regardless of size. You can take advantage of this fact to pick up larger beds at prices comparable or even cheaper than smaller beds at retail. If you aren't planning on buying used then your cheapest option is going to be a regular-size single bed. When buying king-single bed frames and standard single bed frames, the frame is not a big factor since both sizes are similarly priced. However, the mattress itself can be quite expensive, especially in larger sizes. A quality king size single bed can easily cost a few hundred dollars more than a regular single bed. In the end you should buy a smaller size if it will allow you to buy a better quality mattress. You are far better off buying a smaller, more comfortable mattress than buying a larger, less comfortable one.Is it Ok to Buy Used MattressesMany people feel that buying a used mattress is something that you should avoid but it is generally harmless to buy them if they are still fairly new. Under six month old mattresses are almost as good as new and under one year are still quite acceptable. It's a good idea to avoid buying mattresses older than this though as they can be filled with mites and there is no easy way to tell if this is the case. Before buying any mattress, however, you should always check for stains or watermarks. Finally, when you buy a used mattress you should lay it out in the sun for two 6-hour periods (make sure to bring it in overnight). The sunshine will kill off mites, remove any odors and it will also disinfect the mattress quite well.Should You Go for Memory Foam MattressesSpring mattresses have been the dominant form of bedding for many decades and, as a result, people are quite hesitant to switch to new mattress types like memory foam. The reality is that memory foam mattresses aren't necessarily the 'next evolution' of the spring mattress. This is because they will work very well for some people and poorly for others. Generally speaking, back sleepers will benefit from memory foam as it gives good support while contouring to the body in a natural way. However, even this is not a sure way of knowing. If possible, you should go to a store that has memory foam and inner spring mattresses on display so that you can lay on each for a couple of minutes. If it feels comfortable enough then it may be worth gambling on memory foam because when it works well for someone it can potentially increase the quality of their sleep dramatically.Knowing What You Need to Buy So that You Can Come Up With the Correct BudgetBefore working out exactly what you want to buy you should make sure that you are actually aware of all of the costs that will be involved in buying your new bed. You may not be just buying a frame and mattress. Don't forget that you may also need to buy a mattress cover, pillows, headboard coverings, sheet sets, and blankets. If you buy a wooden frame then you may even need to buy something to treat the wood, such as an oil or lacquer.Your Options for Cheap Bedding SellersPhysical Retailers - Physical retailers should be your firsts stopping point when looking for beds. This is because even if you don't plan on buying at retail you can still try out display models and get a good idea of what set up is right for you. When it comes to choosing stores to visit, your best options are Dreams, Frette and IKEA.. Each of these three retailers sells a decent range of single beds ranging from cheap, entry-level options to comfortable and high quality (but more expensive) options. The advantage of this is that you will have the freedom to easily pick something that is suitable to your budget and you will also be able to receive your purchase that same day (or have it delivered within 24 hours). Online Retailers and Wholesalers - If you want to save a bit more money and don't mind waiting for shipping then buying online might be a better choice for you. Online retailers like John Lewis Furniture, Dunlem Mill, and Sleeping Solutions UK all have a large variety of options at prices that are typically cheaper than what is available through storefront retailers. This is simply because online sellers don't have as high overhead expenses to cover and most use this to offer more competitive prices to customers. If you find a set up that you like in a physical store then it is well worth checking the prices online before committing to buy.Used Bedding Sellers - As mentioned earlier, buying used can be a great way to expand your options into higher quality bedding without having to spend as much as you would at retail. You have a few different options when it comes to finding used bedding for sale. The first option for finding cheap single beds with mattresses in the UK is through private local sales. These can usually be found through classifieds in your local newspaper or through websites like Craigslist. Your second option is to buy from used furniture retailers. These can either be specialist stores or charity stores like the Red Cross and Salvation Army. Your third and final option for buying used is through online auctions. Your two major sites for buying used are eBay and Amazon. This is simply because the buyer protection they offer is much better than through smaller websites.
Yes, This Is a Head Hammock for Napping on Planes and It's ...
A hammock for your head sounds like the perfect nap time accessory, especially while traveling. The NodPod, created by Paula Blankenship of Heirloom Traditions Paint in Kentucky, is a memory foam head pillow that is attached to the headrest of a plane, train or automobile with Velcro, and sits under the chin to support the neck.Blankenship's patent focuses on the over-the-seat attachment."That gives it loft and height," she told The Huffington Post. "You don't have any forward head motions. It looks ugly, but it feels fantastic. I just came back from London, and I have never in my life slept on a flight. I slept the entire trip."Their site explains the problem we've all faced:The reason it's hard to rest or sleep while traveling is because you can't keep your head, neck and back perpendicular and at a 90-degree angle similar to how you sleep in bed at night. This patented solution provides the solution to amazing sleep while traveling by recreating how you sleep on a bed, but in an upright position.NodPod is currently looking for Kickstarter support to get off the ground. Over 2,000 people have already helped propel their goal of $20,000 to almost $80,000 with 21 days left in the fundraising. For Blankenship, it's a lifelong dream realized."This has been my passion on my life... and at 53 it feels good to finally do something and see it through with a patent. This time, I just said, you know ... 'I'm going to make this happen.'"As far as travel hacks go, one that may lead to better sleep is pretty appealing. Otherwise, tricks like choosing a seat with minimal distractions and dining before the flight takes off to avoid interruptions might help you get some ZZZs, too.
Memory Foam Mattress Accessories
To relieve pain, snoring and other sleep problems, there are also memory foam mattress accessories that you can buy and here are some of them. The first is the sleep mask. By putting this inside a dark blue cover, you will be able to cover you eyes as this conforms to the exact shape of your face. For those who are on the road and behind the wheel, they won't feel in pain the back anymore when they use the memory foam car comforter as this supports the spine here you need it most.Another thing you can use when you drive or when you are on a plane is the transit pillow. You have probably seen inflatable versions of these being sold in the market but unlike those models, this one also uses the same material that you can find in mattresses. The shape cradles the neck and holds the pillow in place. At home, you can use the bed wedge as this provides additional support when you are watching television, reading the newspaper or for mothers who are breastfeeding their babies. The bed wedge can also be used for those working in the office. But the lumbar support is much better as this fits perfectly to the curve of your spine as a result of the variable height adjustments, the anatomical shape and the pressure relieving properties. If you can't afford to buy a mattress, you can buy bed back support which is very ideal for women who are pregnant. Similar to this is the topper and although quite thin, it can still provide relief and support to the lumbar region. Not all the memory foam accessories support just your back. There are also a few models that support your pelvis and your buttocks.Take for instance the seat cushion. This helps distribute your weight evenly on the entire sitting surface making you seat comfortably for long periods of time. There is also the PC seat wedge. The nice thing about this is that it pushes your pelvis forward that automatically rings your back to an upright position. You can also try the universal pillow that can be used all around when you need pressure relief and support. This can be placed under the ankles, arm, knees, lumbar region or the neck. The leg spacer is another which you can put between your knees to give pressure relief or under the ankles for a additional support and comfort. An accessory that can provide all around relief is the universal pillow. It is a semi-circular pillow for pressure relief and support ideal for usage under the arms, ankles, knees, lumbar region and also the neck. The accessories mentioned can be complimented with each other so that not only one part of your body gets the relief it badly needs.
